• Study of the Radiation Hardness of Silicon Detectors

  Type: Bachelor thesis with the possibility of further development to master thesis

  Student will study principles of particle detection using silicon pixel and strip detectors. One of the requirements for semiconductor detectors is high radiation resistance. Irradiation of the detector leads to the formation of defects in the crystal lattice, which are manifested by among other things, an increase in the voltage required for depletion of the detector, thus reducing the charge collection efficiency. Student will perform measurements of the sensor properties (volt-ampere, capacity-voltage) before and after irradiation.

• Measurement of the Response of Silicon Detectors

  Type: Bachelor thesis with the possibility of further development to master thesis

  Student will familiarize himself with the construction and development of hybrid semiconductor detectors and principles of particle detection using pixel and strip detectors. Segmented silicon detectors have applications in high-energy physics, dosimetry, industry and medicine. Student will measure the response of segmented silicon detector to different particles (α, β, γ, n) depending on particle energy using various radioactive sources. Results will be compared to Monte Carlo simulations.
